Richard Wayne Thompson

We are saddened to announce the death of Richard Wayne Thompson, who passed on July 25, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 89. He was born in June 1936 in Edmonson County, Kentucky to Noah and Ruth Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Charles Thompson, who died in infancy, and a sister, Dean Harper.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marylin Gail Thompson and his children, Dawn Heinstein (Andreas) and Richard Thompson, II (Cassandra) as well as 5 grandchildren, Samantha Chapman (John), Raven Heinstein (Brian), Brian Thompson (Tiffiny), Skyler Heinstein (Cassidy) and Richard Thompson, III (Hunter) and 8 great grandchildren, Ethan, Evelynn, Emelia, Tristan, Torie, Trevor, Sutton and Weston.

He is also survived by one brother, Terry Thompson (Sherry) and many other extended family members.

Richard attended Ahrens Trade High School in Louisville, Kentucky and was a retired member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 110. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially playing golf and attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. He and his wife enjoyed several years as “snowbirds” in Florida, sailed on many cruises, and took a bucket list trip to Ireland in more recent years.

A funeral service for Mr. Richard Thompson will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens East Funeral Home, 11601 Ballardsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 3 PM to 7 PM, and prior to the funeral service from 1 PM to 2 PM, at the funeral home. Entombment at Louisville Memorial Gardens East will follow the funeral service.
