Kenneth Irwin of Sellersburg Indiana passed away returning to his heavenly father on June 18th, 2026. He was born in Palmetto, Florida and eventually settled in Clearwater, Florida with his family. He graduated from Clearwater High School and then graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville with a major in mathematics and chemistry. He received his PHD in analytical chemistry from the University of Louisville. Ken was employed by Air Pollution Control and developed the first scale for reporting air pollution levels for the Jefferson County area, retiring in 2001. Ken enjoyed fishing and tinkering around the house. He also taught a Sunday School class for 46 years.
Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Irwin of 60 years, parents Everett & Esther Irwin, brothers, Gordon and Donald Irwin, as well as sister, Doris Ducharme. He is survived by sister Louise Hunt, brother Paul Irwin (Martha), and his three children, Heather Samantha Stevens (Scott) of Louisville, KY, Holly Michelle Churchman (Robert) of San Diego, CA, and Michael Burke Irwin (Kimberly) of Bagdad, KY. He leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren, one great granddaughter and many friends.
Visitation will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home East, 11601 Ballardsville Road, Louisville, KY, on Tuesday, June 30th, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral service will be held at Christ’s Community Church of the Nazarene, 4920 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN, on Wednesday July 1st, 2026 at 11am. Donations can be made in Ken’s memory to Christ’s Community Church of the Nazarene’s Youth Department.
