Hugh Alexander Wilkinson Jr. passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was 87 years old.
Born in Washington, D.C., on January 7, 1938, Hugh was raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a place that helped shape his lifelong values of independence, curiosity, and hard work. A man of many talents and interests, Hugh spent his life building things—not just with his hands, but with his heart.
He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Lynn Wilkinson, with whom he shared a life full of laughter, resilience, and love. Hugh was a devoted father to Laurie Minor (Mark), Scott Wilkinson (Katie), and Todd Wilkinson (Sami), and a proud grandfather to Cooper, Charlotte, and Beau. His legacy also lives on through his siblings Ann Slautterback (Bill), Marc Manly (Colby Chapman), and David Manly (Marcia), each of whom shared a unique and treasured bond with him.
In retirement, Hugh found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer and a bit of a gambler at heart, embracing both with his trademark sense of humor. A passionate builder and tinkerer, Hugh always had a project going—fixing, creating, or collecting whatever caught his eye. He had a knack for making the ordinary extraordinary, and his enthusiasm for life's little details made him unforgettable.
Hugh’s kind spirit, sharp wit, and steadfast independence defined him. He was a dedicated fan of University of Louisville sports and a lifelong animal lover, often forming quiet, loyal bonds with the pets that shared his life.
The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church or Hosparus Health of Louisville.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, where friends and family will gather to remember a man who left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
