It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Sacra, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away on March 8, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 78. Born on August 2, 1946, in Louisville, David was a man whose love for life and vibrant personality touched everyone he met.
David was a man of many passions, most notably his love for the great outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing, or trap shooting, he embraced every opportunity to be outside. He fondly remembered his trips to Canada for hunting and his many visits to Florida for fishing, and he always looked forward to traveling out west. If it moved, David hunted it, and he did so with a deep appreciation for nature and the thrill of the chase. His zest for adventure never faded, and he passed that love of the outdoors on to his family.
A proud Navy veteran, David’s service to his country was an important part of his life. He served 4 tours in Vietnam and 1 tour in Taiwan. After his time in the service, he spent 28 years working at Ford, where he forged lasting friendships and built a reputation for his hard work and dedication. David's gift of gab was well-known, and his ability to engage anyone in conversation made him the life of any gathering. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell, often with a joke or a laugh to share.
David was married to his loving wife, Ima Jane, for 58 years. Together, they built a life full of memories, adventures, and laughter. David was especially proud of his grandchildren, whom he affectionately called "His 3 boys." He found great joy in attending their meets and games, cheering them on and watching them compete.
An avid softball player, David also played on a family team called the "Hisle Hustlers," where his competitive spirit and camaraderie were at the heart of the team. He treasured his time spent with family, always looking for ways to connect and create memories together.
David’s outgoing personality, love for adventure, and unwavering devotion to his family will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and the reminder to embrace life to the fullest.
David is preceded in death by his mom, Beulah Lane Hisle Sacra; aunt, Opal Hisle; and 5 brothers, Harry, Jimmy, Johnny, Ricky, and Joe Sacra.
Left to cherish his memory, David is survived by his loving wife, Ima Jane Sacra; 2 daughters, Melissa Quinn (Andrew) and Teresa Campbell (Darrell Moran); 3 grandsons, Nathan Quinn, Maxwell Quinn, and Sam Campbell; 1 brother, Gerry Ray Sacra (Rebecca); his dog, Harley; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. David Sacra will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, 11601 Ballardsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and prior to the funeral service, beginning 10:00 AM. Burial will take place following the funeral service.
