Betty Vaughn

November 12, 1939 — September 17, 2025

Betty Jean Lowry Vaughn, 85, of Crestwood, Kentucky, passed away on September 17, 2025, in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. She was born on November 12, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Elnora Clark (Morris) and Lee Edward Lowry.

Betty was educated in the former Louisville School District and graduated from Central High School in 1957. She went on to attend St. Helena’s Business College. A woman of deep faith, Betty accepted Christ as her Savior at First Virginia Avenue Baptist Church.

Early in her career, she worked as a secretary for Standard Oil. On March 27, 1968, she married Roosevelt “Peter” Vaughn, and together they had one daughter, Valisa Loftis.

Betty dedicated her life to serving the Lord and others. She was a devoted member of Beargrass Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and actively participated in prison ministries in Oldham County. She faithfully visited the sick and shut-in and spent countless hours reading her Bible. Betty became a member of Green Castle Baptist Church where she faithfully served and depended on Jesus for the remainder of her life.

She was an avid gardener, especially proud of her African violets, loved traveling, baking cakes, preparing meals and snacks to share with friends and family, and capturing special moments through photography. Betty was often seen with a camera in hand, preserving memories of the people and places she loved most. Betty will always be remembered as a good and faithful servant of the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sister Linda Young, brothers Henry and Robert Lowry, and her lifelong friend Rita Witherspoon.

Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and faith cherished by her daughter Valisa Loftis (Todd) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; two granddaughters, Kiara and Jayla Loftis, also of Ewa Beach; and three great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Brix, and Krue. She is survived by sisters-in-law Clenteria Carr and Peggy (Vernon) Taylor of Louisville, Kentucky, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
